General Questions
What is an AED?
An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is a portable medical device used to treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It works by analyzing the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, delivering a controlled shock to help restore a normal heartbeat. The AED is designed to be user-friendly, with clear voice prompts and visual instructions, allowing even someone with no medical training to operate it effectively in an emergency. It’s a crucial tool in saving lives, as it can quickly restart the heart during a cardiac arrest event, significantly increasing the chances of survival before emergency medical services arrive.
What all is included with the purchase of an AED?
AED, Battery & Adults Pads & Choice of Case.
Can AEDs be used on children?
Yes, although cardiac arrest in a child is uncommon, it can happen. If there is a possibility that your device may ever need to be used on a child under 55 lbs./8 year old, please ensure that you purchase child pads (for HeartStart Home/OnSite devices) or a child key (FRx device) to have on hand in the event of an emergency.
How do I know if my AED is working?
Your AED should always have a flashing green light showing on the upper right corner of your device. Your device will automatically self-test itself once every 24 hours. If your AED stops flashing green, or if your AED emits a series of chirps, please reach out to us immediately for further assistance.
Where should I keep my AED?
An AED should be kept in a safe, accessible location that is no further than a brisk 90-second walk away.
Do I need to plug-in my device to charge?
The AED contains a lithium battery that does not require charging. It will last 4 years, and we will notify you when it is time to replace it.
What happens if I do something incorrectly when using the AED?
The AED has a microprocessor and verbally instructs you throughout the entire process. The AED will analyze the individual’s heart rhythm & will only provide a shock if needed.
